Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has announced the creation of a Sports Executive Committee bringing together the nation’s Olympic, Paralympic, and sports council leadership to deliver a unified, inclusive national sport model.
The Prime Minister revealed the new Sports Executive Committee (Comité Ejecutivo del Deporte Español) during the presentation of the “Sport Model” (Modelo del Deporte) report at the Spanish Olympic Committee headquarters in Madrid on 5 December. He was accompanied by the Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar Alegría. The presentation was also attended by the President of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco, the General Director of the Spanish Paralympic Committee, Francisco Botía, the Director of the “Sport Model” project, Alberto Palomar, and the President the Higher Sports Council, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes.

The new Committee will be composed by the Superior Council of Sports (Consejo Superior de Deportes – CSD), the Spanish Olympic Committee and the Spanish Paralympic Committee, and will carry out its work within the framework of the CSD.
Sánchez said the new body is founded on the belief that Olympic and Paralympic sports progress together as there can only be one, inclusive Spanish sport model. The Prime Minister also reminded that about 190,000 people work today in sport-related sectors in Spain, namely 47 percent more than seven years ago.
