World Boxing was publicly launched in April 2023.

The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has provisionally recognized World Boxing as the international federation (IF) within the Olympic Movement governing the sport of boxing at world level. The decision followed an assessment of the situation of World Boxing, in which it was noted that the organization satisfied a series of relevant criteria. Among the governance criteria, World Boxing has put in place the structure and documentation for good governance, has recognized Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) jurisdiction, and has successfully applied for World Anti-Doping Code Signatory Status, which has been accepted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

“The assessment concluded that World Boxing has continued to make progress regarding the identified areas of consideration in order to be recommended for IOC Provisional Recognition as the IF within the Olympic Movement governing the sport of boxing at world level,” concluded the IOC in a statement.

World Boxing responded to the IOC’s decision with a public statement on Feb. 26, in which it welcomed the decision by the IOC’s Executive Board to grant it provisional Olympic recognition.
