For the first time, Apple Watch users can access the full Rip Curl surf experience with the same features as the Search GPS watch.
Since 2014, Rip Curl has tracked over 25 million waves across 2,400 beaches in 76 countries using its wearable device. In addition to offering metrics like paddle count, wave speed, and distance traveled, the watch also shows real-time surf conditions powered by Surfline.
With the release of the new version of Rip Curl Search GPS watch and surf app, the iOS app can now be used on Apple Watches with the same features as on Rip Curl’s own device.
“We’re excited to finally launch the new Search GPS3 watch, which is packed with next-level surf and tide features,” said Michael Choma, Senior Designer of Product, Experience & Innovation at Rip Curl. “Now, with the Search GPS app available on the Apple Watch, even more surfers can experience this groundbreaking technology and become part of a global surfing community.”

The Rip Curl Search GPS iOS app turns the Apple Watch into an advanced surf-tracking device. Apple Watch users can relive sessions, compare stats with friends, check out pro surfs, and share experiences on social.
With 1.7 million Apple Watch surfers, the app will expand Rip Curl’s reach and connect with a new community. It also features the leaderboard-style competition, “Boss of the Break.” Surfers can compete against others at their local surf spots. This fosters friendly competition and a sense of community. Surfers can also create their own virtual leagues to compete with friends worldwide.
