Chinese sportswear group Xtep introduced two proprietary running technologies at a Shanghai product event on Aug. 22, a top-tier carbon racing plate and a new cushioning foam, as the company extends its running line beyond racing into training and everyday wear.
Staged under the banner “Run To X,” the event combined the product reveals with field tests involving Xtep-sponsored elite runners, an academic validation session and a running-themed fashion segment.
The launch marks Xtep’s shift from racing-only technology to what it calls a full-scenario approach: carrying the same carbon and cushioning platforms built for competitive racing down into structured training, casual running and everyday lifestyle shoes, rather than keeping the innovation confined to elite product lines.
The two technologies are the GT1200 carbon plate and XTEP FLOAT, a foam the company describes as zero-gravity cushioning. Xtep built three new shoe families around them: the 160X8.0 racing series, led by the 160X8.0 Ultra; the Airflow Zero cushioned running range; and the 2000KM 5.5PRO training shoe, together spanning elite competition, structured training and daily mileage.

GT1200: Xtep’s first use of high-grade carbon fiber in a running shoe
The plate came out of a research partnership with Chinese carbon fiber manufacturer Zhongfu Shenying that began in October 2025. According to Xtep, the material is adapted from fiber grades used in aerospace and medical device manufacturing and carries a protective outer coating meant to guard against fiber breakage under repeated impact. The company said the plate is both lighter and stiffer than its earlier racing plates.
Xtep tied the launch to its competitive record, saying the 160X series has helped runners break Chinese marathon records four times over three years and has led wearing rates at Chinese marathons for three consecutive years.

A China-made technology and a direct challenge to Nike and adidas
The GT1200 partnership marks a step toward localizing a carbon fiber category still largely supplied by imported technology, used by global rivals including Nike and adidas in their own racing plates, narrowing the performance gap with the marathon shoes those brands sell worldwide. Pairing that racing halo with the more accessible Airflow Zero and 2000KM 5.5PRO lines lets Xtep carry elite credibility down into the training and lifestyle segments where volume sales sit.
Xtep’s X-RUN moves onto ground long held by ASICS
Xtep is backing the range with X-RUN, a multi-tiered runner program built around four components: sponsored entries, accommodations and professional gear for elite runners at major marathons including Taiyuan, Shenyang and Xiamen; a 10-kilometer time trial circuit run through regional hubs such as Kuala Lumpur; a personal-best incentive scheme, branded PB Master, offering vouchers or cash rewards for runners hitting new personal records in official races; and structured training camps with professional coaching.

According to Xtep, its 2026 Elite Runner Program has drawn applicants from markets including Indonesia and Malaysia. The program serves a dual purpose: putting Xtep’s carbon-plated racing shoes in front of competitive fields for real-world validation, and building the grassroots running relationships the company is using as a base for expansion beyond China.
