The line between sneaker culture and mainstream sportswear has gotten hard to draw, and SPORT 2000 GmbH just renamed a business unit to admit it. The German retail cooperative has retired SNEAKER FORCE, the specialist network it built around sneaker retailers, in favor of SPORTSTYLE EXPERTS, a name that drops the footwear-only framing for something broader.

The change is more than a fresh coat of paint. It folds the group into a naming system SPORT 2000 already uses for its other specialist retail concepts, OUTDOOR EXPERTS, TEAMSPORT EXPERTS, RUNNING EXPERTS and SKI EXPERTS among them, giving brand partners one consistent structure to navigate instead of a patchwork of legacy names. Marc Scheiner, Head of Sportstyle at SPORT 2000, explained the shift: the boundaries between sport, fashion and culture keep blurring. Retailers inside the network will keep their own storefronts and local branding regardless of what the umbrella group is called.

A network built on sneakers, outgrowing the label

SNEAKER FORCE started in 2017 as a bet that independent sneaker retailers, banded together, could punch above their weight against bigger chains and direct-to-consumer brand channels. Eight years later, the network spans more than 40 specialists across Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Twice a year, those retailers converge on Mainhausen for MeetNBuy, part trade show, part order platform, part trend briefing, that has become one of the group’s main tools for keeping its members aligned on what’s next in sneaker and lifestyle product.

The real target is Benelux

The rename lands just as SPORT 2000 aims to grow the network beyond its current footprint. Talks are already underway with prospective retail partners in the Netherlands, part of a broader plan to expand into Benelux markets. Dominik Solleder, managing director of SPORT 2000 GmbH, described the unit as a complement to the group’s performance-heavy core business and pointed to collaborations, like a recent capsule with PUMA and Rothaus, as the kind of exclusive drop the network wants more of. That combination, an expandable retailer network plus a track record of brand tie-ins, is what makes the sportstyle category worth SPORT 2000 sharpening its name for.
