JD Sports is expanding rapidly in Spain, where it has already set up a network of a dozen stores in the last couple of years. It has just opened a store in a shopping center of Madrid, La Vanguardia, and according to CMDsport, it is planning to add two others in the Madrid region, where it would end up then with 11 units by the end of this year. The British retail chain also plans to have a total of about five stores in the region of Valencia, compared with only two before the planned opening of a flagship store of 650 square meters due to be open shortly on Calle Xàtiva, on a site previously occupied by a Nike store in the downtown area of the city. Another Spanish JD store in the pipeline for this year is a 1,000-square-meter flagship placed in a major shopping center of Barcelona, La Maquinista.
