As one of the first sports retailers in Austria, Bründl Sports has just received a certificate as “Climate Neutral Company” from Fokus Zukunft, a sustainability consultancy that has worked with the Austrian retailer to define a bundle of initiatives based on the three pillars of ecology, economy and social responsibility. Bründl has decided to implement concrete projects in each category. For 2021, Bründl Sports has offset its greenhouse gas emissions by purchasing 1,542 certificates from the projects “UN CER Water Uganda;” “VCS Forest Brazil” and “GS Cook Stoves Tanzania.” Its new flagship store in Kaprun is certified as a Green Building (ÖGNI & Klimaaktiv certified) and the whole company plans to reduce its CO² emissions by 21 percent until 2024. In the future, Bründl wants to give preference to suppliers and brands with strong sustainability concepts and who are paying more attention to the sustainability of their products. The family-owned retailer, which stopped working with Intersport in September 2019, is one of the largest sports retailers in the Alps, running 31 stores at nine locations.
