Decathlon, which already has eight stores in the eastern part of Canada, is expanding to the western part of the country with a big store and distribution center in Calgary. The 70,000-square-foot store and warehouse will occupy the second floor a former Sears department store in the Southcentre Mall of the city. The automated warehouse will process e-commerce deliveries all over Western Canada. Decathlon says the shop will offer an “experiential and showroom-based” customer journey, after-sale service workshops, a café, a co-working space and a multi-sport area for sports activities and classes held by local coaches. The French-based retail currently has five stores in Québec, one in Nova Scotia and two in Ontario. Two more locations are in the pipeline for openings in Brampton and Toronto. Decathlon still has only two stores in the U.S., both in the San Francisco Bay Area, complemented by an e-commerce operation.
