The Ironman Group has announced that Isuzu Ironman South Africa is moving to a new home in Mossel Bay. The swim start and finish line of the full-distance race, which debuts next April, will be held at Santos Beach and De Bakke resort precinct.
The full South Africa 2027 calendar will now consist of:
- Isuzu Ironman 70.3 Nelson Mandela Bay African Championship – Jan. 31, 2026
- Isuzu Ironman SA Mossel Bay African Championship – April 18, 2027
- Isuzu Ironman 70.3 Durban – June 6, 2027
For the first time, Africa will be hosting an Ironman 70.3 regional championship. General registration for the Mossel Bay and Nelson Mandela Bay events will open on Aug. 12, while Durban’s will open on Sept. 2.

Recent figures about triathlon participation, previously released by SGI Europe, reveal a sport in demographic transition. For much of its commercial history, triathlon’s core consumer profile was primarily male, 40-plus, loyal to high-performance products at a high price point. The participation data on the 2024/25 cycle from major national federations, commercial event series and independent registration platforms now tell a different story. Female participation is climbing, and the core age group is getting younger. The implications for the sporting goods industry extend well beyond simple product-mix adjustment.
