RacePace’s ITRA integration means a runner’s full race history, not just current fitness, now feeds directly into pre-race prep – a shift particularly relevant for athletes returning after a break from racing or training.

RacePace, a race-planning platform that combines athlete fitness data with course and weather information to generate pacing, effort, heart-rate and fueling strategies for trail and ultra-distance events, has partnered with the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) to integrate runners’ full race histories into its planning engine.

The move underscores a broader shift in fitness technology away from single performance metrics and toward richer, long-term athlete profiles.

Under the integration, RacePace can now automatically import a user’s ITRA score along with a complete record of mountain races. Previously, runners entered only their ITRA score manually, which limited the platform’s analysis to a single performance indicator. The change gives RacePace’s prediction engine access to additional inputs, including race distances, competition history, terrain exposure and the timing of previous events.

RacePace says that context helps the software generate pacing, effort and nutrition plans that reflect accumulated experience rather than relying mainly on recent fitness signals.

A wider evolution across connected fitness and sports technology

As AI-powered coaching and recommendation systems become more sophisticated, platforms are increasingly seeking structured historical datasets that provide a deeper view of athlete behavior and performance over time.

In RacePace’s case, historical race participation may be especially useful for runners returning after a long break from competition or structured training. Those athletes can appear less capable when assessed through recent data alone, even if years of racing experience remain relevant on race day.

From rankings to predictive coaching

The partnership also shows how sports performance databases are finding roles beyond rankings and race qualification. Originally designed as an athlete benchmarking and race-management resource, ITRA’s dataset is now being used in a consumer planning platform, extending its utility into prediction and personalized coaching.

For RacePace, the integration removes a manual data entry step and may improve prediction accuracy for less conventional athlete profiles, including lower-frequency racers and returning competitors. More broadly, it illustrates how fitness platforms are moving beyond standalone scores and toward connected data ecosystems that can support more nuanced AI models. The ITRA integration is available to all RacePace users.
