An arrest warrant has been issued for Olivier Jacques, former shareholder and general manager of Le Coq Sportif and Aytex, a French trading company. As reported by Sport-Guide.com, Jacques was sentenced by a court in Mulhouse to two years in jail, one of them firm and the other suspended. The Frenchman, who did not attend the trial, was further ordered to pay a fine of €150,000 to the customs authorities, €557,582 to Adidas and €90,940 to Nike, for importing illegal merchandise. The trial came after the seizure of a huge batch of counterfeited Adidas and Nike products in 2003 in several warehouses in the east of France, with an estimated value of €3.8 million. At the time, Jacques explained that Aytex was involved in parallel trading, buying stock from legitimate suppliers and selling it to supermarkets. Jacques had been involved with Aytex before he took over global rights for Le Coq, with the exception of Asia, in 1999. After the seizures, Aytex was liquidated in 2003 and Le Coq was sold in 2005 to Airesis, a Swiss holding company. Jacques was then said to have left France and to reside in South America. His lawyer said that he would appeal.
