TPD Luxury Solutions has obtained a European, Middle East and North American license to make golf apparel under the Aquascutum brand, to be delivered for next spring. Banking on the luxury appeal of the Aquascutum brand, the licensee is targeting sales to about 60 exclusive pro shops and apparel stores for its first year.
The man behind TPD Luxury Solutions is Tim Dally, who spent almost 10 years building up the Burberry Golf brand until this label was withdrawn about one and a half years ago. Furthermore, the team has built up contacts with golf courses through its partnership with CMC Golf, selling custom-made accessories to golf courses. TPD International has rights to these accessories for all markets outside of the United States.
Aquascutum Golf, which will be positioned at the higher end of the golf apparel market, will start by targeting the U.K., Ireland, France, Italy, Germany and the Middle East. It also hopes to sell to another 60 golf apparel retailers in the U.S. market in its opening year. The second year will see heightened focus on other markets, from Spain and Portugal to Scandinavia and fast-growing golf markets such as Russia and Greece. The operation will work with much the same sales force and agents as the former Burberry Golf.
This comes shortly after a change of ownership at Aquascutum. The brand’s rights for North America and Europe were sold to Harold Tillman, the British businessman best known for turning around Jaeger, while Asian rights went to the YGM Group in Hong Kong.
