Invista, the big fiber producer that has replaced Du Pont, is expanding its global production of nylon 6,6 and other polymers. The company has begun brainstorming plans for a world-scale production facility in Asia that would produce enough adiponitrile (ADN) and hexamethylene diamine (HMD), two compounds used to make nylons and other polymers, to meet the increased demand in the region. Invista’s new factory will utilize a new competitive and low-cost technology of producing butadiene-based ADN. Butadiene is a chemical that can be used as a monomer in the production of synthetic rubber. The company is currently talking with potential customers and suppliers in China to finalize the location of the new facility.
