Lacoste is suing the Silk Alley Market in Beijing for selling knock-offs of its popular shirts that bear embroidered crocodiles. The French company is seeking 100,000 Chinese remnimbi from the market’s owner, Beijing Xiushui Haosen Clothing, along with five vendors, on the grounds of trademark infringement. The suit follows joint legal action by Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Adidas and Levi’s last November, when the athletic and fashion giants sued the market for CNY2.5 million (€0.24m-$0.31m) for selling fake items. After this took place, the market agreed to evict tenants who sold knock-offs.
