TaylorMade Performance Labs in the U.S. have joined Twitter and Facebook. The labs, which custom-fit golf clubs, will inform followers and friends of company news and updates, as well as give tips on fitting clubs from PGA pros. To promote the new service, anyone who goes to one of the company’s six laboratories in the U.S. and signs up to join it on both social networks will get a 50 percent discount on the fitting fee.

The custom fitting process takes about two and a half hours. It uses motion-capture technology to monitor the golfer’s body and club during swings with driver, iron, wedge and putter. A golf pro can study the resulting 3D animated image to pinpoint weaknesses to improve the golfer’s play, and recommend various clubs. Then demo clubs are built on site, and the actual custom clubs can be shipped from TaylorMade’s headquarters as quickly as 24 hours later. A similar lab operates at the Adidas Group's head office in Germany.
