Founded 46 years ago, Bosideng’s success is primarily based on the production of down jackets, which are warmer, lighter and more comfortable than most down jackets on the domestic market. Moreover, the garments also have a distinctive and unique design with bright colors, which have proven popular with Chinese consumers.

Fusing independent design and the pursuit of high performance are embedded in Bosideng’s DNA. Its craftsmanship has led to numerous collaborations, including with fashion icon Jean Paul Gaultier to launch the co-branded series, and helping the scientific expedition team of China to conquer the three poles of the world (South Pole, North Pole, Mount Everest).

Functional products for modern life

In order to keep making clothes which meet high functionality demands, Bosideng has established a Global Innovation Institute, which is dedicated to developing innovative products for various environments. Bosideng researches and develops functional fabrics with highly knowledgeable technology partners around the world to better tailor its products for different target groups. Two of these fabric innovations won awards at ISPO Textrends 2022, and will feature in the new Bosideng collections in the coming seasons.

Self-developed bio-based fabrics among the top ten at ISPO Textrends

The sustainable fabric “BSD X-light Fire free” is made of 100 percent bio-based polyester, and is based on the unique product properties of Solotex. The fabric contains a 30 percent hollow ratio, which reduces the weight of the fabric and provides excellent thermal protection with  a lower weight compared to wool materials. The outstanding performance of the fabric has been developed for outdoor and camping jackets. In order to further increase its safety from the fire sparks that fly during outdoor and camping activities, Bosideng has additionally made it fire-resistant.

The BSD BioX4_1.0 fabric innovation is a 100 percent bio-based polyester fabric, with the base fabric, auxiliaries, coating and membrane all bio-based. The fabric mainly consists of warp and weft yarns made of  Sorona material. Sorona is a bio-based fiber that has a natural 3D spiral structure, and which is more than twice as soft as polyester fibers of the same size. In order to realize a DWR (durable water repellent) finish, Ruco-Dry Bio CGR is applied to the fabric. It is a highly renewable water repellent finish based on vegetable waste, with a bio-based carbon content greater than 85 percent. For the membrane, Bosideng uses Impranil eco; a bio-based PU dispersion with up to 53 percent renewable content without compromising on material performance.

Sustainability through transformative product design

Bosideng’s pursuit of sustainability is not limited to material. It’s about the overall concept of a product. Take the Bosideng Composite Structure Camping Down Jacket as an example. It is a versatile jacket that provides all-round functions and innovative design, which can cover a wide range of outdoor needs. Due to its outstanding design and performance, the Bosideng Composite Structure Camping Down Jacket won a 2022 ISPO Award.

And the visionary design and sophisticated construction not only convinced the ISPO Award jury of experts, but also consumers. To find out whether the jacket truly works in practice and to get direct feedback from consumers, Bosideng offered the jacket to members of the ISPO Collaborators Club in September 2022. The feedback was overwhelming: “We tried out different combinations of weather and temperatures and every part of the clothes works well. The jacket is very comfortable due to its width. We all like to wear it.” Almost all testers came to a similarly positive conclusion on the thoughtful design, the multi-functions, and the good workmanship of the jacket.

In the future, Bosideng will continue to utilize cooperation with the ISPO Collaborators Club to collect more valuable feedback from specific target groups and markets, to better guide the development of products and collections.
