In view of his death on Sunday Oct. 3, the Paris Court of Appeals has decided to “extinguish” all pursuits against Bernard Tapie in the case that pitted him against a French bank, Crédit Lyonnais, that helped him to finance Adidas’ takeover. The issue revolved around a sum of €403,000 that was assigned to him in an arbitral decision in 2008 for damages and to compensate for the loss of capital gains accrued from the subsequent resale of his controlling stake in Adidas. Because of the entrepreneur’s death, the appeals court also decided to postpone a verdict that was scheduled to be issued on Oct. 6 about a controversial ruling made in July 2019 that lifted charges of alleged “manipulation” made against him in the case. The court has yet to judge five other individuals involved in the case. Tapie is due to be buried in Marseille on Friday, Oct. 8. It is not sure at this stage whether his wife and his four children will be entitled to a portion of his remaining estate.
