The World Padel Tour (WPT) – through its parent company, Setpoints Events SL – has filed suit in the 15th Commercial Court of Madrid against the International Pádel Federation (FIP), Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) and the Professional Pádel Association. The WPT alleges anti-competitive practices: namely, the setting up of a parallel tour called Premier Pádel, designed to exclude and replace it. The WPT, a non-profit organization, serving as the sport’s regulating body, is, in particular, alleging that the defendants have violated Spain’s anti-competition law by inducing WPT players to breach their WPT contracts, profiting from the breaches, boycotting the WPT to promote Premier Pádel, pilfering investments made for the WPT, denigrating the WPT and its management, and “dumping” Premier Pádel. The WPT asks the court to issue a cease-and-desist order and suspend Premier Pádel players who have retained their contracts with the WPT (against whom the WPT has made separate filings). The case is scheduled for review on July 1.
