Barcelona will bid to host the 2024 edition of America’s Cup, the iconic sailing race which is also the oldest trophy international sport, established in 1851. The news was first unveiled by the Spanish daily newspaper La Vanguardia. The other bidders on the shortlist include fellow Spanish city Málaga, Cork in Ireland, and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. The successful host will be announced by March 31, 2022. Spain had already hosted the event in the past. America’s Cup regattas were indeed staged in Valencia in 2007 and 2010.
