Thanks to a new concept, the ISPO Awards presented the second of four annual sets of winners earlier this week. The jury selected 23 sports products from a wide range of categories in this round, most of which demonstrated convincing new solutions regarding sustainability or low weight. Many of these and previous winners will be presented at the ISPO Award Exhibition at OutDoor by ISPO on June 12-14, 2022.
An increasing number of brands is thinking about how more sustainable use of our resources could look and what happens to the products at the end of their life. This new trend is reflected by several of the most recent winners of the ISPO Award, which are:
- Deuter Guide 30: Optimal comfort-to-weight ratio and meeting the actual needs of the target group: an 880-gram 30-liter and fully equipped mountaineering backpack.
- Deuter Vertrail 16 L: A lightweight, waterproof and ultra-comfortable backpack – one of the judges’ favorites, ISPO said. Made for mountaineering, but also great for everyday urban use.
- BN3TH Glacier Creek Merino Full Length Baselayer Pants: Baselayer pants with the so-called “MyPakage Pouch Technology,“ keeping everything in place in the intimate area and preventing uncomfortable friction or compression.
- LifeStraw Peak Series Squeeze Bottle with Filter, 650 ml: The all-in-one product with an integrated water filter is lightweight, small packable, and better to carry than a standard drinking bottle.
- LifeStraw Peak Personal Water Filter Straw: The next generation of the 17-year classic, now usable as a straw to drink directly from rivers and lakes and with a thread that fits on standard drinking bottles.
- Adidas Terrex Made to be Remade Wind Anorak: Lightweight jacket made entirely of recycled polyester fabric and completely recyclable.
- Kathmandu NXT Level Bio Down Jacket: A biodegradable, RDS down-insulated jacket made entirely of biodegradable materials. The compostability is also continued in the packaging.
- Helly Hansen Odin 9 Worlds 3.0 Jacket: Helly Hansen has relaunched its best-selling 3-layer hardshell jacket, now made of recycled Ocean Bound material, made from discarded and lost fishing gear that would otherwise end up as marine debris.
- Merrell MTL Skyfire 2: 200-gram trail running shoe offering sufficient protection, agility and speed thanks to the integrated BZM-8 plate.
- Merrell Rogue: Lightweight Gore-Tex boot for backpackers combining technologies from the trail running sector with classic hiking boots’ comfort, protection and durability.
- Ortovox Peak 35: Alpine touring backpack with a carrying system made of 80 percent Swisswool.
- Rab Cinder Phantom Jacket: Rab launches its first bike wear collection this summer, including this minimalist jacket, feather-light (<100g), waterproof and storable in a small stuff sack, which can easily be attached to the bike frame.
- Adidas Techrock Light Gore-Tex Jacket: Ultralight, highly functional and soft 3-layer Gore-Tex Active jacket with the new YKK Integra zipper. The zipper teeth are directly connected to the waterproof fabric – no need for zipper tape or extra seam sealing.
- Silva Terra Scout: Lightweight headlamp made of undyed, recycled plastics. Even the lamp unit contains so-called Revo material consisting of recycled polymers mixed with plant fibers from hemp and causes up to 90 percent less CO2 emissions than standard plastics.
- Adidas Terrex Free Hiker XPL Gore-Tex Parley: Robust hiking shoe made with the PFC-free and durably waterproof Gore-Tex ePE membrane combined with a PFC-free finish, recycled materials and Parley fibers made from recycled ocean plastic.
- Odlo X-Alp PW 115: Soft baselayer made of Nuyarn fiber technology combined with wool, resulting in faster drying times, greater elasticity and better seam strength.
- Bachmann Brake and Steer System: A patented system for braking and controlling a sled safely and intuitively.
- Coros Vertix 2 Multisport GPS Watch: The first smartwatch for outdoor sports to offer dual-frequency GNSS, which enables precise positioning via five different satellite constellations (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou and QZSS) with impressive accuracy in complex environments.
- Komperdell Calima Carbon Cloud: Women-specific carbon trekking pole weighing 175 grams (per pole), thus 40 percent lighter than conventional trekking poles and one of the lightest products on the market.
- BN3TH North Shore Chamois: Bike pants featuring the novel, patent-pending MTB-specific STS (Sea-to-Sky) seat pad – three millimeters thick, with the surface made of a blend of 82 percent nylon and 18 percent spandex. Also feature the MyPakage Pouch and IONIC + No Stink Technology.
- Schöffel Circ Pants Looop: The pants are made of recyclable polyester and can be converted back to 100 percent polyester at the end of their use phase thanks to the patented revolTEX® technology, a highly efficient recycling process.
- The North Face Dawn Turn 50/50 Synthetic Jacket: A warm jacket that can be worn during activity without getting too warm, thanks to the synthetic down filling and a breathable 50/50 construction that allows a certain distance between the insulation lamellas, combined with a high CFM outer fabric, creating airflow from the inside to the outside for better temperature management.
- Tropicfeel Shell Travelbag: Multifunctional, adaptable 3-in-1 backpack, adjustable from 22 to 40 liters of volume. The accessory ecosystem helps better organize contents and make the best use of the space. It is made from 100 percent recycled fibers from pre and post-consumer waste.
Brands can apply for an ISPO Award throughout the year. The jury meets four times a year to judge the applications. The winners are presented, among other things, in the form of a review on ISPO.com on the date of the respective winner’s choice. The trade show where the winner will be exhibited can also be freely selected. The next ISPO Award winners will be determined in September 2022.
