One of the UK’s oldest specialty archery retailers, known for sponsoring Team GB Olympic archers, has entered administration — raising questions about the future of a 76-year-old sporting goods institution.

UK specialty archery retailer Quicks Archery has entered administration. A notice published in The London Gazette on March 11 confirmed that Jonathan Paul Philmore of Philmore and Co Ltd was appointed administrator on March 3. A statement now visible on the company’s website warns customers that orders placed online will be delayed “due to a restructure of the business.”

Administration is a UK insolvency process in which an appointed administrator assumes control of a company to shield it from creditor action while seeking either to rescue the business or to achieve the best possible outcome for creditors.

A catalogue business that helped shape British archery

Quicks Archery was established in 1949 by David George Quick. The company built its early reputation through “The Bowman’s Guide,” a mail-order catalogue that became a reference point for archers across the UK during the 1950s and 1960s. In more recent years the retailer maintained its visibility in the sport through sponsorship, backing British Olympic archers Tom Hall and Briony Pitman — both of whom competed for Great Britain at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
