A U.S. federal court has awarded $3.3 million in damages to Columbia Sportswear in its lawsuit against Fibretonics over its Omni-Heat technology, introduced in 2011. In the suit, filed in September 2013, Columbia had requested damages of $9.4 million, charging that Fibertronics' improperly aligned heating components in the wrist cuffs of its Omni-Heat outerwear were creating electrical shocks that caused fabric to melt. This led Columbia to recall the products and destroy the jackets, abandoning the technology from the 2013/14 season.
