Adidas said that the energy efficiency program at its supplier factories in Indonesia has proved so successful that it is considering its rollout to other countries. Launched in August 2011, in partnership with the German Organisation for International Cooperation - Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the project on “Greening Global Supply Chains - Focus on Energy in Indonesia” was rolled out to help Adidas suppliers achieve their 2015 targets for energy reduction. The project has involved nine apparel suppliers and seven footwear suppliers, which followed a series of workshop sessions about energy management, energy audit, financial assessment and monitoring. After the training, participating companies were asked to implement what they had learned, with this checked once it had been completed. Some of the suppliers involved are now aiming for the ISO 50001 energy management certification in 2014, and all of them now have their own energy teams. In total, the factories participating in the program succeeded in reducing their energy consumption in 2012, with savings up to 4,715 tons of CO2 compared with the previous year.
