World Rugby has finalized a contract extension with Macron, securing the Italian sportswear manufacturer as its official match-apparel partner through 2029. The agreement builds on a partnership established in 2020 and covers the full spectrum of premier rugby tournaments under World Rugby’s jurisdiction.
Under the extended deal, Macron will design technical apparel and footwear and supply it to match officials at the men’s and women’s Rugby World Cups, the World Rugby Sevens Series (HSBC SVNS) and rugby competitions at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The partnership also encompasses age-grade world championships and other World Rugby-sanctioned events through two complete World Cup cycles.
Partnership delivers performance and sustainability
The collaboration has focused on developing specialized technical kits for the unique physical demands of elite officiating. Referees require apparel that combines high visibility with durability and thermal regulation in varying climates.
The 2026-29 cycle will place renewed emphasis on environmental targets. Macron will use its proprietary Eco-Fabric – a polyester made from 100 percent recycled plastic certified by the Global Recycled Standard – throughout the officiating range. This alignment supports World Rugby’s “Environmental Sustainability Plan 2030,” which aims to reduce the sport’s carbon footprint through circular manufacturing.
