Chris Ronnie, the 52-year-old British manager who led the now-defunct JJB Sports chain of sporting goods stores between August 2007 and March 2009, is facing a possible jail sentence along with two accomplices on Dec. 12. After an eight-week trial, a jury convicted Ronnie of receiving fraudulent payments of more than £1 million (€1.3m-$1.6m) in relation to deals with Travel Fox and the supply of Old Navy clothing, and of providing false information on an allegedly fake loan document. The jury also convicted two co-defendants, David Ball and David Barrington, who worked for two other companies, Performance Brands and Fashion & Sport. Ronnie and Ball apparently faked a loan from Fashion & Sport when Ronnie received a loan of £11 million (€13.9m-$17.2m) from Kaupthing, the Icelandic bank, to purchase a 30 percent stake in JJB. Ball and Barrington tried to erase e-mail evidence related to the deals.
