Decathlon Spain is installing some 12,542 square meters of solar panels onto the roofs of 17 of its stores, according to Diffusion Sport. It expects the panels to generate more than 3.7 million kWh, or about 35 percent of the stores’ annual consumption of electricity, for a savings of 1,277 tons in CO2 emissions. This first phase of the project, undertaken with EiDF Solar, will be followed by a second in the coming months, with more stores added to the tally.
According to the company’s real estate and development manager, Yolanda Lara, this is one of several renovations. Others are making the thermal insulation, air conditioning and lighting of its stores more efficient or setting up charging posts for electric vehicles.
