Puma is looking for 500 people in Germany to join brand ambassadors such as Cara Delevingne and Raphaël Varane to test the Re:Suede sneaker and become part of the company’s experiment to find out if it is possible to produce a biodegradable version of the classic Suede, one of the brand’s most iconic models since the 1960s. With the Re:Suede project, Puma aims to set new sustainability standards for the sneaker, which in its new “green” version will be made from materials such as Zeology-tanned suede, biodegradable TPE and hemp fiber. The trial will test whether it is biodegradable under controlled conditions in an industrial composting facility. In May, 500 participants will receive a pair of Re:Suedes for testing. They are to wear the shoe for six months and then return it to Puma. As a thank you for their participation, they will receive a new pair of Re:Suedes. The returned shoes will be tested for biodegradability at a facility run by Dutch waste specialist Ortessa. German citizens wishing to take part in the experiment can register on Puma’s website https://eu.puma.com/de/en/resuede by March 14. Puma will then draw 500 participants.
