Citing Fastighetsnytt, ehandel.se reported at the end of last week that the French sports chain Decathlon has decided to close two of its four Swedish stores. Decathlon established itself in Sweden in 2011 with a first test store in Bromma. The idea was then to expand extensively with stores in all major Swedish cities, but in total, only four stores were operating in the country: in Uppsala, at the Mall of Scandinavia in Solna, in Kungens Kurva and in Barkarby outside Stockholm. The latter two will now be closed. Decathlon justifies the decision by saying that the market situation in Sweden is too difficult and, in addition, the economic situation worldwide is forcing the company to reorganize in Sweden and focus on e-commerce and the remaining two stores.
