As part of Amazon’s investment in its warehousing and distribution network to support sellers and improve customer service, the online marketplace has introduced a new solution that allows sellers to use new, purpose-built facilities for bulk inventory storage and automated distribution called Amazon Warehousing & Distribution (AWD). Amazon says AWD “makes the promise of Supply Chain as a Service a reality” and is specifically designed to solve inventory management challenges and increase operational efficiency. With one click, sellers can send their inventory to Amazon Distribution Centers and significantly reduce storage costs while eliminating complex pricing schemes and long-term contracts that are common in the industry. Sellers can integrate their upstream warehousing operations with the Amazon Fulfillment Network to ensure they always have the right amount of goods in stock, in the right place, at the right time. Sellers using AWD can also consolidate their global inventory, which they can then view and manage in Seller Central to simplify their operations with a single inventory pool. In 2023, sellers can use AWD to send their inventory to any location, including wholesale customers or brick-and-mortar stores. The service is one of many new offerings that Amazon will share more about at Amazon Accelerate, the company’s annual seller conference, which takes place on Sep. 14-15.
