Industrial production fell 2 percent in the euro area and 1.9 percent in the European Union (EU) in October 2022 compared with September 2022, according to estimates from Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office. Nevertheless, industrial production rose by 3.4 percent in the euro area and by 3.7 percent in the EU compared with October 2021.
The index of industrial production measures the evolution of the volume of production for the industry, excluding construction, based on data adjusted for calendar and seasonal effects. The euro area (EA19) includes Belgium, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia and Finland. The European Union (EU27) includes Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden.
Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest monthly decreases were registered in Ireland (-10.7 percent), Luxembourg (-4.4 percent) and Czechia (-3.7 percent). Increases were observed in Slovakia (+1.3%), Lithuania (+1.1%), Greece (+0.5%) and Austria (+ 0.2%). The highest annual increases were registered in Ireland (+53.2%), Denmark (+10.7%) and Malta (+7.2%). The largest decreases were observed in Estonia (-5.8%), Luxembourg (-3.8%) and Belgium (-2.8%).
