French sporting goods retailer Decathlon has appointed Elena Pecos as the new chief executive of its Irish business. She takes over the role from Bastien Grandgeorge, who had led Decathlon Ireland since 2017 and is now at the helm of the French Decathlon business.
Pecos joined Decathlon in 2006 as a sales assistant in Spain before holding a number of senior positions for the company in Spain as well as other countries, including France and Chile. Decathlon’s flagship Irish store is in Ballymun, Dublin. The retailer also has a store in Limerick and reportedly plans to further expand its Irish network in Cork, Galway, Waterford and Dublin, according to The Irish Times.
Decathlon posted global revenues of €15.4 billion in 2022, representing a 12 percent increase compared to 2021. Online sales now account for 17 percent of its total turnover. The company’s total profit rose to €923 million from €913 million in 2021. Decathlon has 1,747 stores in 60 countries and a worldwide staff of 105,000 people.
