JD Sports Fashion has appointed Andy Higginson as chair of the group, effective July 11. The appointment follows an extensive search process conducted by the board with the support of an external executive search firm, the company said in a statement. Higginson is a highly experienced and proven retailer and chairman with more than 28 years’ continuous experience as a non-executive director on public company boards, including senior roles over nearly 15 years at Tesco, a British supermarket chain and the U.K.’s largest retail chain. Most recently, he was chairman of William Morrison Supermarkets from January 2015 until the company was acquired by private equity firm CD&R LLP in November 2021. During that time, he oversaw a significant turnaround of the company and a substantial increase in shareholder value. He is also currently a senior independent director at Flutter Entertainment, a global sports betting, gaming and entertainment provider.
