JD Sports appointed Michael Armstrong to the newly created position of global managing director to drive growth and advance expansion plans internationally, particularly in the North American and European markets, to become the “leading global sports-fashion powerhouse.” Armstrong will work under CEO Régis Schultz to oversee JD’s strategic direction, business operations and colleagues, alongside continued business development and growth, the retailer said.

Armstrong has worked for JD Sports since 1995, when he started as a sales assistant in the Glasgow store. Since then, he has held a number of key and leadership positions, most recently as group buying director from 2014 until March 2023.
