Tony Estanguet, president of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee, called for additional sponsors to keep the momentum going. Speaking at a plenary session of the coordinating commission, also attended by the IOC, Estanguet pointed out that the current global geopolitical and economic problems are impacting preparations for the Games. The past few months, he said, have led to economic uncertainty across Europe as food and energy bills have soared, partly due to the war in Ukraine and subsequent sanctions against Russia. In France, energy bill increases have been limited to four percent, while inflation has reached 6.1 percent, the highest level in 37 years. Neighboring countries have been hit even harder. French sports minister Amelie Oudea-Castera also attended the plenary session and said that cuts might have to be made in some areas to keep costs in line. The Paris 2024 Olympics are scheduled to run from July 26 to Aug. 11, 2024, followed by the Paralympics from Aug. 28 to Sept. 8.
