The British retail chain JD Sports will open an 800-square-meter store in Hamburg’s HafenCity, operated by Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, a global developer and operator of flagship destinations with a portfolio worth €54.5 billion. The new mega store’s extensive brand and assortment mix will combine brands such as Nike, Adidas, Puma and The North Face with JD’s private label brands Pink Soda and Supply & Demand. The store will be the British retailer’s first in Hamburg’s extended city center.
JD Sports currently has over 2,400 stores in 19 countries worldwide, 77 of which are in Germany. In February, JD Sports and Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield announced that JD Sports would relocate within Westfield Centro in Oberhausen, currently Germany’s largest shopping and leisure destination, and more than triple its current space with a new concept. The new mega-store at Westfield Centro will open in fall 2022.
At Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier in Hamburg’s HafenCity district, a total of 14 buildings are being constructed to create a new flagship destination in Hamburg with outstanding architecture and a unique mix of uses. Retail, entertainment concepts and over 40 hospitality units will be finely balanced with a total of 579 apartments, offices for 4,000 workplaces, three hotels and a cruise terminal. The neighborhood is optimally integrated into the local infrastructure through its own subway station, bus lines and various mobility services. The mixed-use project consists of a total area of 419,000 square meters and is being realized by Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield with an investment sum of over €1 billion.
