Even though Covid-19 infections are not steadily declining worldwide, travel restrictions continue to be relaxed in many countries.

We provide a short overview of current changes:

Canada

In Canada, travel restrictions are being lifted completely. The Canadian authorities inform: “Starting October 1, 2022, all Covid-19 border requirements, including vaccination, mandatory use of ArriveCAN, and any testing and quarantine/isolation requirements will end for all travelers entering Canada whether by land, air or sea.”

New Zealand

As of September 12, 2022, proof of vaccination is no longer required for entry into New Zealand. However, travelers are advised to obtain additional confirmation from the respective airline before departure.

Japan

Entry into Japan is also becoming easier: Since September 7, business travelers from almost all European countries can apply for a multiple-entry visa for business purposes (valid for 1 year). From 11 October 2022, it is planned that the visa exemption measures will be resumed for 68 countries and regions (including Germany and other EU countries, the U.K., the U.S. and Canada). This exemption includes tourist and transit travel, therefore it is no longer mandatory to book a package tour or guided group tour to visit Japan for tourism purposes.

Taiwan

In Taiwan, quarantine regulations in particular are being relaxed. The Taiwanese Central Epidemic Command Center announced that “in response to the gradual relaxation of border restrictions, it will adjust the quarantine policy for arriving travelers. (…) The quarantine will be ended, but seven-day self-initiated epidemic prevention will be required.” Travelers have to use at-home rapid test kits. And: “an arrival should stay at home or a residence of a friend or family member or a hotel room that meets the requirement of “one person per room” (with an en suite bathroom) in the self-initiated epidemic prevention period.”

USA

The entry requirements to the USA have been valid for a little longer. Non-U.S. citizens must “show proof of being fully vaccinated with the primary series of an accepted Covid-19 vaccine before you board your flight to the United States.” There are only a few limited exceptions.
