According to Textalks, the French government is planning a series of meetings with garment and textile industry stakeholders as the first step toward a more sustainable French textile industry. Over the next month, representatives of the textile industry, as well as consumer groups, recycling associations, environmental organizations and non-governmental organizations will be meeting with Bérangère Couillard, Secretary of State to the Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion.
According to the Textalks report, the meetings are intended to help the government draft a decree, which is expected to come into force in 2023. A paper is scheduled to be published in early November. Apparently, the French government is planning to introduce financial rewards for companies whose textile products are sustainable, contain recycled materials and/or have a long lifespan.
