The 141st International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session, which met in Mumbai on Oct. 17, elected eight new IOC members, four women and four men, bringing the proportion of women in the IOC membership to 41.1 percent.

Following a vote, the session elected Yeal Arad of Israel, a retired judoka and first-ever Olympic medalist from Israel, to join the membership. Arad was appointed president of the National Olympic Committee of Israel in November 2021, the first woman to hold this position. The other three women who were elected by the Session to the membership are: Cecilia Roxana Tait Villacorta, a former volleyball player and Olympian and former Congresswoman from Peru; actress and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Goodwill Ambassador Michelle Yeaoh from Malaysia; and Petra Sörling from Sweden, president of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).

The four men elected by the 141st Session are Balázs Fürjes from Hungary, a member of the IOC’s Coordination Commission for the Games of the XXXV Olympiad, Brisbane 2032; German entrepreneur and sports manager Michael Mronz; Jae-youl Kim from the Republic of Korea, president of the International Skating Union (ISU); and Mehrez Boussayene of Tunisia, president of the Tunisian Olympic Committee.

These elections bring the total number of IOC Members to 107.
