After beating Spain in the Olympic final, the players of the Brazilian men’s football team went to the podium in Tokyo with their Peak official sweater tied around their waist. The players appeared in their Nike-produced shirts instead of wearing the sweater made by Peak. This was in violation of the contract between Peak and the Brazilian Olympic Committee, claimed China’s Peak Sport Products, which formally complained to the Brazil Olympic Committee for the alleged violation. Peak sponsors the Brazilian Olympic Committee while Nike sponsors the Brazilian football team. The Brazilian Olympic Committee said in a statement that it “repudiates the attitude of the Brazilian Football Confederation and the players of the national team during the awards ceremony,” adding that it would take action against footballing authorities. A spokesman for the Brazilian Football Confederation said that he was not aware of the issue, Reuters reported.
