Chip Wilson, the founder of Lululemon Athletica, and his wife, Summer, have revealed a donating of 100 million Canadian dollars (€75.2 million) donation to BC Parks Foundation through Wilson 5, their private foundation. The money will support the preservation and development of wilderness in British Columbia’s natural regions, focusing on the BC Parks Foundation’s mission to protect 25 percent of land and sea by 2025 via its 25×25 program. The recent donation is reportedly the largest private donation in Canadian conservation history.
Earlier this month, Lululemon, headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, shared its 2021 Impact Report, which highlights the company’s progress on its CSR commitments. But a climate change campaign is now targeting the athleisure company through an open letter, arguing that almost half of the energy that powers its factories comes from burning coal. The letter, which has been signed by nearly 1,700 yoga teachers and students across 30 countries, asks Lululemon to immediately phase out coal and source 100 percent renewable energy for its factories and supply chain.
