Pinarello's factory, near Treviso, was again targeted by thieves in the night between Sept. 29 and Sept. 30, but this time the local law enforcement officers, the “carabinieri,” managed to arrest one of the culprits. The 19-year-old previous offender was caught while he was hiding two bikes and had already taken ten more, valued at €38,000, by making a hole in the roof of the building. The stolen bikes were due to be transported abroad for sale on the internet. Another theft attempt at the premises of the Italian bike manufacturer, in mid-September, had failed thanks to the alarm systems. In May, just weeks before the start of the Giro d'Italia, 70 racing bicycles and 115 frames were stolen from the factory, a whole freshly-made lot worth around €450,000.
