Adidas Originals is launching the “world’s first personality-based AI-generated avatar creation platform.” In the German brand’s summation, the “web experience” favors “individual personalities” over “physical appearances.” Customers fill out and submit a questionnaire, one of whose questions asks for a favorite OzWorld sneaker silhouette. The platform will then “translate the input into a unique digital avatar that takes aesthetic inspiration from the collection’s dynamic visual codes.” Customers can animate their avatars and digitally try on and purchase sneakers from the collection. The resulting avatar is downloadable for display as a sticker or .gif file on social media. The avatar generation will be done by the Ready Player Me platform, whose avatars are usable in some 1,500 games and apps within the so-called metaverse.
Adidas Originals is promoting the release of its newest collection for OzWorld, a “digital journey” based on the Wizard of Oz and consisting of nine NFTs: four shoes, four characters and one OzWorld. (Adidas is donating the proceeds from OzWorld for student scholarships at an international fashion design institute.) The first installment of avatars is scheduled for April 28.
