In collaboration with the Shakur Estate, Fila has released a special-edition collection of apparel, accessories and footwear in honor of the legendary musician. This is the first exclusive footwear collaboration between the Estate and Fila. Tupac Shakur was a cultural icon with an enduring influence that transcended music. Style was a part of his story and his legacy has left a lasting impression. In an era dominated by streetwear, he was a trendsetter, and his influence on the aesthetics of 1990s hip-hop and beyond has withstood the test of time. The artist, born in New York in 1971, died on September 13, 1996, in Las Vegas, Nevada, after being hit by multiple bullets in his car. The crime remains unsolved to this day. In April 2017, Tupac was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, becoming the first solo hip-hop artist to be recognized in his first year of induction.
The exclusive Fila x 2PAC collection includes faithful recreations of iconic pieces from Fila’s archives and inspired by pieces Tupac wore. It ranges from styled tracksuits, logo-studded T-shirts, camouflage jackets, shorts and vests to paisley accents symbolizing his bandanas and his Fila sneaker of choice, the Grant Hill 2. The Grant Hill 2 was worn by Tupac on the iconic album cover of “All Eyez on Me” and was a staple in his daily wardrobe. Among the personal items on display at the “Tupac Shakur: Wake Me When I’m Free” museum earlier this year were Tupac’s own Grant Hill 2 sneakers. In addition to the Grant Hill 2 Low x 2PAC ’96 Reissue in the original red/white/navy colorway, the collaboration also includes a special Grant Hill 2 Low x 2PAC in a brown/white colorway, with design accents such as paisley accents on the sock liners and Tupac’s signature on the quarter. On the tongue of the shoe is a Velcro patch that features a “Tupac Cross,” while the heel strap is adorned with a gothic Tupac. Both shoe models are packaged in individual shoe boxes with Tupac imagery and the bandana print.
The Fila x 2PAC campaign lookbook was shot at the “Tupac Shakur: Wake Me When I’m Free” exhibition in Los Angeles. Earlier this year, a selection of Fila merchandise was available exclusively in the museum’s gift store. The new collection has been available on Fila.com since Oct. 4.
