GoPro has just announced a new open Application Programming Interface (API) for third-party developers of apps, called Open GoPro, that will allow them to integrate its own action cameras, starting with the GoPro Hero9, into their solutions The API enables a range of functions via wireless interfaces. With Open GoPro, developers have API access to the following Hero9 Black features: wireless connectivity, camera command and control, camera status, camera preview, and SD card media check and transfer. Demos and sample code are available at GoPro.com/OpenGoPro. There is no application or approval process required, which means the API is not “hidden” behind a corporate partnership, but anyone can get to work creating apps that integrate with it.
