Polar Electro’s GoFit app is now compatible with the Google Chromebook. The app is designed to help physical education teachers evaluate student effort in real time – by monitoring heart rates and how they measure up against heart-rate targets, for example. It also awards badges for student effort.
The app “safely” uploads to polargofit.com the data it collects from heart sensors attached to subjects’ bodies. (The sensors work with other Polar devices as well and are available for purchase in ten-unit bundles.) This data then feeds into individual student training profiles and into summaries for whole classes. The online service is available by annual subscription.
Also, certain Polar watches can continue recording data offline outside the Chromebook’s range.
Polar says its devices are used in more than 10,000 primary- and secondary-school PE programs in the U.S.
