Rip Curl has signed a major partnership deal with Surf Snowdonia, which is supposed to be the world's first artificial wave to open to the public. The facility is being constructed in the lee of the Snowdonia mountains in Conwy, North Wales. Due to open in July this year, it will generate powerful man-made surfing waves of up to two meters in height, in a 300-meter long lagoon. Rip Curl will provide wetsuits for Surf Snowdonia's Surf Academy. In addition, the brand's wetsuits, clothing and accessories will be for sale in the on-site retail space, which will be housed adjacent to an entirely glass-fronted 50-metre hub building on the edge of the lagoon, so close to the waves as to give the public the impression of being able to touch them. Surf Snowdonia is expected to attract more than 75,000 visitors every year, including surfers of all ages and skill levels. Beginners and improvers will be offered lessons in surfing, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), bodyboarding, and surf kayaking at the Surf Academy. The £12 million (€16m-$18m) Surf Snowdonia Wavegarden will also play host to events, surf demos and competitions.
