The textile industry faces immense challenges: How can premium functional apparel be produced sustainably while meeting environmental regulations, without compromising quality and durability? And what can be done about the exponentially growing mountains of electronic waste? Xpore, the textile brand of BenQ Materials, has created a solution to address both urgent issues by connecting two seemingly incompatible worlds — electronics and textiles: e2cycle,the world’s only recycled textile made from discarded LCD panels.

Just two years of intensive research and development were needed to bring e2cycle to life. Since 2025, Xpore has been recycling PET films from discarded LCD display panels, sourced both from its own production and from partners. The ingenious part: these recycled PET films are transformed into recycled PET pellets through a purely mechanical process, and then processed into durable textiles. The result? High-performance fabrics that offer a new benchmark in functionality.

Trust through award-winning excellence

Developed by BenQ Materials’ functional textile brand Xpore, e2cycle transforms LCD waste into high-quality textile through technological innovation and vertically integrated production. This model drives efficient material recovery and supports carbon neutrality. In 2024, Xpore and e2cycle received the Eco Performance Award from the Trend Forum of Performance Days and were also recognized by FIT Sport Design 2025. As a bluesign System Partner with Oeko-Tex and Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certifications, e2cycle demonstrates Xpore’s commitment to quality and responsible innovation.

From recycling to upcycling and upvaluing

The e2cycle journey has only just begun. With its purpose-driven approach, Xpore aims to expand PET recycling from display manufacturing and integrate it into the textile value chain. By leveraging vertical supply chain integration and local production in Taiwan, e2cycle maximizes recycling efficiency and showcases the combined strengths of strategic alliances and technological innovation.

More than recycling, this model is about upcycling and upvaluing — recreating value from discarded materials and transforming them into high-performance textiles. It also embodies a broader ambition: to establish Taiwan’s reputation for sustainable manufacturing through material innovation, responsible supply chains, and ESG-driven collaboration.

Functionality meets sustainability: benefiting from the advantages

Manufacturers in the outdoor and sports textile sectors, in particular, benefit from e2cycle’s unique advantages:

  • Electronics to Textile: Connecting electronics and textiles through a new resource pathway.
  • Integrated Design: e2cycle’s mono-material laminate is conceived for direct integration into existing outdoor apparel production lines, facilitating more efficient recycling and material recovery.
  • Carbon Neutrality: By replacing virgin polyester, CO₂ emissions are reduced by 57% compared to conventional polyester textiles.
  • Material Neutrality: End-of-life electronics gain a second life, reducing waste mountains and curbing illegal incineration.
  • Uncompromising Performance: e2cycle textiles match bottle-based recycled PET in weight, thickness, tear strength, dyeability, and abrasion resistance, ensuring reliable high performance.
  • EU REACH Non-Hazardous: Classified as non-hazardous under EU REACH guidelines, ensuring safety and environmental compatibility.

About BenQ Materials: Founded in 1998, BenQ Materials began with optical storage products and has since evolved into a global leader in material science solutions. With six core material and process technologies, the company has expanded into four application fields: functional films, advanced battery materials, biomedical, and textiles. Today, BenQ Materials is not only a leading display materials supplier but has also grown into a diversified group managing professional medical, personal healthcare, and functional textile brands.

About Xpore: Xpore is a textile technology brand inspired by nature’s intelligent designs. Its core nanomembrane innovation—20,000 times smaller than a drop of water—creates a barrier against liquid while allowing air and vapor to pass, balancing protection, breathability, and comfort. Applied across ultralight, extreme-performance, and recycled textiles, and backed by the BenQ Group’s strengths in materials science, Xpore continues to redefine functional textiles by translating nature’s wisdom into real-world performance solutions.
