Vivek Sharma, vice president of Meta’s social virtual-reality platform, is resigning after six years with the company, a spokesman for the company has confirmed to The Verge. Sharma’s team will be reporting to Vishal Shah, vice president of Meta’s metaverse.

Facebook describes the platform, called Horizon Worlds, as a “social experience where you can explore, play and create worlds,” cautioning that it is a “public space” where users are visible – in the form of a username, avatar and friend list – to others.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast a few days ago that Meta would be releasing a new VR headset in October.

Reality Labs, Meta’s virtual and augmented reality (VR, AR) division, has posted a loss of $2.806 billion for the second quarter, which ended in June. This represents an increase of 15.4 percent year-on-year. Revenues for the period were $452 million. For the first half, the loss amounted to $5.766 billion, an increase of 35.4 percent year-on-year.
