According to the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, the country's footwear industry managed to raise exports of shoes by 49 percent in value during 2011. The total value of exports was $264 million. The most important customers were the U.S., Canada, Japan, and various Asian and European countries. Currently, there are 40 shoe factories in Cambodia that employ more than 62,000 workers. In comparison, neighboring Vietnam managed to increase its exports in the first two months of this year by 21 percent to $1.04 billion. For the full year 2012, Vietnam expects a 12 percent increase in exports to $7.3 billion.
