Amazon has announced the identification and disruption of three counterfeiting operations in China’s Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces, thanks to a collaboration between the local public security bureaus (PSBs) and intel provided by Amazon’s Counterfeit Crimes Unit (CCU). Chinese law enforcement seized more than 240,000 counterfeit items, including fake sports apparel, luxury products and automotive accessories, infringing on brands like Lacoste, Under Armour, Hugo Boss, and BMW, among others. These seizures of counterfeit goods based on intelligence from Amazon follow similar actions by law enforcement in England and the U.S. (California and New Jersey), said the internet giant. Amazon’s CCU provided local authorities with information, including the locations of warehouses and manufacturing facilities, which led to the successful identification and disruption of three major counterfeit operations and their upstream suppliers. In 2021, Amazon’s CCU sued or referred for investigation more than 600 criminals in the U.S., the U.K., the EU and China, the company said in a statement.
